How we research

For our animal profiles, we consult scientific, educational and official sources. We check what a source supports and distinguish established facts from estimates and ideas under discussion. Each profile lists its references, and image credits identify their sources.

Photographs and illustrations

We use photographs and illustrations with recorded sources and permissions. Image credits accompany the material. Illustrations help explain a subject; they are not a substitute for documentary photographs.
