Privacy policy

Last updated: 1 November 2026.

This notice explains what information is processed when you use WikiAnimals.com, why it is processed, how long it is kept and what rights you have.

Who runs the website

WikiAnimals.com is run by a private individual based in Romania, who is responsible for the information described here (the controller under the General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR). You can reach the publisher through the contact page.

Access and essential information

The website uses WordPress login sessions only for its administrators. The server processes connection and request information, including the IP address and requested page, to deliver content and protect access. Hosting and security systems may keep technical request logs.

Essential cookies support authorised sessions and WordPress preferences. Analytics and advertising cookies are described in the cookie policy.

Analytics and advertising

WikiAnimals uses Google Analytics to measure how visitors use the website and Google AdSense to show advertising. When a page loads, your browser connects to Google, which receives information such as the page address, your IP address, device and browser details, and identifiers stored in cookies. Google processes this information under its own policies, may transfer it outside the European Economic Area and, where allowed, may use it to personalise ads. How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services explains this in detail. You can control personalised ads in My Ad Center and stop Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Social icons are ordinary links, rather than embedded social feeds.

Legal bases

  • Delivering and protecting the website (server requests, technical logs and essential cookies): the legitimate interest in running a working and secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • Analytics and advertising: your consent, where the law requires it (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for this consent through Google’s consent message, where they can accept or refuse. You can change your choice at any time from the privacy settings link shown by that message, or by clearing the website’s cookies in your browser.
  • Replying to messages: the legitimate interest in answering the questions you send.

How long information is kept

  • Google Analytics: visit data linked to cookies and other identifiers is kept for 2 months, then deleted automatically. Reports show only summary figures.
  • Cookies in your browser: the periods are listed in the cookie policy; you can delete cookies at any time.
  • Advertising: Google keeps advertising data under its own retention rules, described in its privacy policy.
  • Technical request logs: kept by the hosting provider for a limited period, for security and troubleshooting.
  • Messages: kept only as long as needed to deal with your question.

External websites and videos

Animal profiles may link to sources and other websites. Opening an external link takes you to a service with its own privacy practices. Playing a YouTube video connects your browser to YouTube and may involve processing by that service.

Contact messages

The contact page links to the publisher’s form on Goki.ro. Messages are submitted on that website, under its privacy policy, rather than through a form hosted on WikiAnimals.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to the information concerning you, its correction or deletion, the restriction of its processing and a copy in a portable format. You can object to processing based on legitimate interest and withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the processing carried out before. To exercise these rights, contact the publisher through the contact page and identify the information concerned. Most analytics and advertising information is held by Google; the controls above let you manage it directly.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority: in Romania, the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP), or the authority in the country where you live or work.

Managing your information

You can clear or block cookies through your browser settings. The animal profiles remain fully readable with analytics and advertising cookies blocked. Blocking essential session cookies can prevent administrator access from working.
