Cat breeds for people with allergies

No cat is completely hypoallergenic: the allergy comes from the protein Fel d 1, found in saliva and skin, rather than from the hair. Some breeds, however, are described as causing milder reactions, such as the Siberian, Balinese, Sphynx, Devon Rex, Cornish Rex and Russian Blue.

How the breeds were chosen

We included only the breeds that the Wikipedia article on the Fel d 1 protein names as producing less of the protein or causing milder reactions. For the Siberian there are also studies; for the others, mostly reports from owners. A person with an allergy should spend time with the cat before taking it home.
