British cat breeds

Britain held the first cat show, in 1871. It also gave the world several well-known breeds, such as the British Shorthair, Burmilla, Cornish Rex, Devon Rex, Scottish Fold and Havana Brown.

How the breeds were chosen

We included breeds created or developed in Britain (England and Scotland). The Abyssinian is on the list because it was developed in England, although the first cat came from Abyssinia.
