Cat breeds good with children

Breeders’ associations describe some breeds as especially gentle and patient with children. The list includes the Ragdoll, Ragamuffin, Maine Coon, Birman, Bombay and American Shorthair, among others.

How the breeds were chosen

We included only breeds whose FIFe profile, CFA breed page or Wikipedia article clearly says that they suit families with children. The description applies to the breed in general. Every cat has its own character, and upbringing and socialisation matter just as much. Children should be taught to handle the cat gently.
