American cat breeds

Many cat breeds were developed in the United States and Canada, from the cats of early settlers to new breeds from recent decades. They include the Maine Coon, Ragdoll, Bengal, American Shorthair, Bombay and Savannah.

How the breeds were chosen

We included breeds created or developed in the United States or Canada, even when some come from cats brought from other countries (the Balinese, for example, comes from the Siamese).
