Animals of Antarctica

Antarctic animals face cold conditions, strong seasonal changes and a close dependence on the surrounding ocean.

Which animals live in Antarctica?

Examples include penguins, seals, whales and other seabirds. Blubber or insulating feathers help different groups retain heat. Many depend on marine food webs that include krill, fish and squid. The wider Antarctic and Southern Ocean region contains several distinct habitats.
