Animals of Romania

Romania has varied wildlife across mountains, forests, rivers, wetlands and plains. Brown bears, lynx and wolves use forested landscapes, while otters and beavers are associated with suitable waterways.

The Danube Delta provides opportunities to observe birds such as pelicans, swans and egrets. Deer, wild boar and ground squirrels occur in appropriate lowland habitats. Reptiles include horned vipers and European pond turtles.
