French dog breeds

France has a long tradition of hunting with packs, so many of its breeds are hounds and pointers. This list also has companion dogs and shepherd dogs, such as the French Bulldog, Dogue de Bordeaux, Briard, Beauceron, Brittany and Basset Fauve de Bretagne.

How the breeds were chosen

The list includes breeds that the FCI records with France as their country of origin.
