Terrier breeds

Terriers were bred to hunt foxes, badgers and rodents, including in their burrows. They are brave, energetic and independent dogs, such as the Jack Russell Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Airedale Terrier, Bull Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

How the breeds were chosen

The list includes breeds from FCI Group 3 (terriers) and a few American and British terriers not recognised by the FCI (such as the Rat Terrier or the Patterdale Terrier). Many terriers dig, bark and chase small animals, so they need consistent training.
